"Pistachio", or "Stash" for short, is a Double Yellow Amazon. He is a very sweet bird with a nice personality. He does not make a lot of noise but enjoys carrying on a conversation with you. At this time his vocabulary is not very big but he tries very hard to get you to understand him. He is not a "screamer" that some people find so easy to dislike.
"Kodi" is a special parrot. He is very spoiled, and that is easy to do with an Umbrella Cockatoo. Kodi is very loveable and longs for all the attention. He can be very jealous and will gently tug at guests as they pass by his cage if he thinks they will stop and pet him. Kodi doesn't talk but can get his point across without the help of words. Most cockatoos, like Kodi, are not great talkers but they do make wonderful pets.
"Cookie Bird" is another of my favorites and is new to The Parrot Place On The Ridge. Like Kodi, Cookie is also an Umbrella Cockatoo. He isn't as spoiled as Kodi yet, but I am sure that I can easily change that. Cookie does talk and lets you know, "Cookie is a good bird". He also sings and can be very entertaining.
"Ray" is our Scarlet Macaw and is a really beautiful bird. He is very large but very gentle.
"Sonny" is our Blue and Gold Macaw and is very pretty. Both Ray and Sonny are four years old and they have been together forever. Sonny is the tattletale in the family and screams loudly when Ray has escaped. Ray is good at doing this and loves to explore. When you enter The Parrot Place On The Ridge you will be greeted with, "Hello", and, "I want a cracker", from both of these beautiful birds.
Some of our favorite birds are:
Cockatoos: These are large birds. The majority are white, although there are black, grey and pink species. They are very friendly birds and make wonderful pets.
Eclectus Parrots: These are beautiful birds. Male and female have wonderful color. They are small birds with good personalities.
African Parrots: Congo African Greys are renowned for their talking ability and make good pets too. They are gray in color with a bright red tail. Meyers are small brown birds, about 8 inches in size, but can be very good pets once they get used to being handled. Senegals have good disposition but do not have much talking ability. They are also small, about 9 inches.
Macaws: Distinguished from other parrot family members by the bare skin patches around their eyes, Macaws have a special personality. They are the largest of the parrots and are very colorful.
Amazon Parrots: These are the so-called "parrots" that people often think of when they think "parrot". They are green in color and can have yellow, blue or red markings. They can be good talkers and can be taught tricks if you have the time to spend with them.
Conures: These birds are a new favorite at the Parrot Place. They are small and relatively inexpensive. They don't talk well but make excellent pets if you don't mind their loud voices
